Random Treasures Mini Book Retreat
April 21-22, 2018

Picture

Two full days discovering delicious ways to use your bits and pieces, loads of techniques, and a tiny comfy retreat to relax in.
It doesn't get any better than this.

The Workshop

Do you love little details?  Do you love the unusual? Do you love mini books?  This workshop will show you how to make your very own mini book, full of vintage goodness, eclectic objects, and just maybe, the kitchen sink.  (just kidding).

You will learn layering techniques for your pages, how to combine paper and fabric for a textural feel, hand-stitched elements, and how to incorporate the unusual for a unique, one-of-a-kind book.  You will learn a simple, yet versatile binding technique that can be used for any size or shape book and a bonus ‘one-sheet’ super mini technique that can be incorporated into your mini book or be used on its own.

This is a collaborative workshop and we ask that you bring one small component for each workshop attendee.  It can be a fun collage paper, an antique store find, or a handmade embellishment.  Remember to think ‘outside the box’ and bring something that will be unique and fun to incorporate into your book. At the end of the two days, you will never look at ordinary objects the same again.

Hello!  I am Tina Walker and I am a lover and creator and art is an outlet that allows me to keep my sanity and is a retreat from my daily career responsibilities.  My creative passion includes all things Mixed Media; including Art Journaling, Assemblage, and Fabric Art and Book Making. Mixed Media is a perfect discipline for me, encompassing multiple products, mediums and design techniques.  My project selection and medium choice are always changing, and you may never know what I may create next. I love to collaborate with artists from around the world, combining styles and techniques for memorable pieces that will be cherished for years.
I am a frequent contributor to Stampington publications, including Somerset Studio, Art Journaling, Somerset Apprentice, and Sew Somerset and you can also find me here:

THE VENUE--THE CRAFTY SHACK
www.thecraftyshackllc.com/

We meet for these two days (plus the evening before and the morning after to accommodate travel and to make sure you don't miss a thing!) in a sweet little retreat center near Williamston, Michigan, to play and learn—low pressure. The retreat is a craft retreat which allows us to keep our stuff set up for the entire time and to work anytime we feel like it—day or night. You'll have a full table to YOURSELF! The Crafty Shack is a hidden treasure of a retreat space--small and charming--and you will be happy here, and delighted with how well it works.
Because the venue accommodates only 8, workshops are intimate and lush, with lots of time to learn from our teacher and each other. We build in time to relax, too!

Your registration fee includes your room, breakfasts and plenty of snacks. We are about 20 minutes from grocery stores and restaurants for other meals, and with two kitchens there's no problem with cooking!
Great work space. Crafting space is downstairs with drive-up to door to unload supplies. Two 3-bed rooms, one 2-bed room, all upstairs. Living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms on both levels.
This where Camille and I steal away for our 4-5 day artwork getaways, and we really like it.

We can pick people up from Flint or Lansing Airports. If you are coming from Detroit Airport, you will need to rent a car or take the Michigan Flyer. In the past there has been carpooling.

We will have a closed FB group once you sign up, so arrangements and updates happen there.
